New Fr. Joseph Muzquiz Bulletin

A new issue of the bulletin for the cause of canonization of Fr. Joseph Muzquiz is now available in both pdf and print format.

The Prelature’s Office for the Causes of Saints in New York recently published a new issue of the bulletin for the cause of canonization of Fr. Joseph Muzquiz. Fr. Joseph came to the United States in 1949 to start Opus Dei’s activities in this country.

In the main article, on Fr. Joseph’s veneration for the Pope, Michael Barrett writes: “Anything having to do with the Pope interested him. He meditated on his ideas in his personal prayer, and gave them particular emphasis in his preaching and talks.” The article centers on the 1979 visit of St. John Paul II to the United States. It opens a window onto Father Joseph’s deep and practical devotion for the person of the Holy Father.

The bulletin also includes a selection of recent favors obtained through Fr. Joseph’s intercession.

The bulletin concludes with a report on the closing session of the diocesan phase of Fr. Joseph’s cause. During the ceremony, Cardinal Seán O’Malley, Archbishop of Boston, said, “Father Muzquiz showed us that the virtue of everyday heroism can be achieved by all people of good faith who open their heart and soul to the gift of God’s graces.”

Fr. Joseph died in Boston in 1983. His cause for canonization was opened in the Archdiocese of Boston in 2011. The diocesan phase of the process was completed on May 22, 2014.
