Statement from the Opus Dei Press Office about Tweets of Subramanian Swamy

In recent months, Opus Dei has been mentioned in the tweets of Subramanian Swamy, member of the Rajya Sabha, the Upper House of the Indian Parliament.

In the last few months, Mr. Subramanian Swamy has been using twitter to spread messages that are confusing, inaccurate and offensive to Christianity in general and Opus Dei (an institution of the Roman Catholic Church) in particular.

We would like to clarify that Opus Dei is not engaged in any of the activities implied by Mr. Subramanian Swamy in his Tweets. Opus Dei helps ordinary Catholics, men and women of all ages and occupations, to strive for holiness in their ordinary work and daily duties, inspiring them to be sowers of peace and joy wherever they are. Together with other Christians and people of all faiths and none, they set up and run educational and social initiatives, to help especially those in need.

We take no offense at these tweets. At the same time, we humbly ask that the faith and feelings of Christians be respected.
